September/October

 Hi Everyone,

We've had a very busy and very successful two months back at school. It is great to see all the happy faces coming in the morning. Everyone has done a brilliant job keeping safe.

1st and 2nd class would like to show you their self-portraits. See if you can work out who is who!

We also had some lovely animals looking though some windows at us!

We had great fun this week making our Pumpkin Decorations and our Scary Hallowee'en Scenes.
The children did a fantastic job.
Take a look!

Welcome back 1st & 2nd class

Dear Parents of 1st & 2nd class children,

I hope you are all well and looking forward to our return to school. I know I am. I am excited about welcoming back my 2nd class and welcoming my new 1st class.

I understand that some of you children and parents may be feeling a little apprehensive or anxious about coming back and that is only natural. It will certainly be a return to school like no other year!!

We have been working hard to ensure that our classrooms and our school are safe environments and adhering to all the guidelines. You will already have received lots of information from Mrs.Ginty on the school website.

- The classroom has been deep cleaned by professional cleaners as has the entire school.

- There is a sanitising station on entry to the classrooms and also at the toilets in the classroom.

- All the staff have worked hard over the summer and reconfigured all of the available space in our school.

- The classroom has been cleared of all unnecessary items and children will be well spaced out and have plenty of room.

- There will be a basket on each child's table for their own belongings - books, folders, copies etc.

- Teachers' desks have perspex screens which will enable children to approach in a safe manner.

- Children may bring their own mini sanitiser and/or wipes(labelled), if they wish and keep it in their baskets.

- Children can bring in lunch boxes and drinks as normal which they will keep in their bags.

- There will be no formal homework for the first few weeks to allow children to settle back into school life.

- Classrooms will be cleaned to a high standard daily.

- Our class will finish school each day at 2.40pm. You will have already received information about this.

What can you do to help?

- Can you please ensure that ALL your child's belongings are labelled including jumpers and coats. This is imperative this year.

- Ensure your child's uniform is clean each day. It would be advisable to change child out of uniform each day after school until next morning. Washing uniforms regularly is at your own discretion.

- Please ensure lease and photocopying money of 50 euro is in an envelope clearly labelled. This money must be paid next week as requested due to the costs of extra textbooks and materials to be purchased this year. Mrs. Ginty and Mrs. Finlay will be in charge of this next week.

- If you need to contact me during school hours send me in a written message with your child or leave a message with Mrs. Finlay and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

It is completely normal for your child or indeed you to be feeling anxious about returning to school. To be fair, all we have heard for the last few months is Covid.

As adults, we all need to reassure children that we are working very hard to keep them safe and they do not need to worry. They need to come back to school, have fun, learn new things and follow the simple Covid rules that will be explained to them by their teacher.

Children have been absolutely fantastic through all of this. They have done what has been asked from them, doing their work, staying away from friends and being very good. They should be very proud of themselves and know that they have helped to suppress the virus.

I look forward to seeing all the boys and girls on Tuesday. It will be different and perhaps a little strange and emotional. But we will all adapt very quickly.

Kind Regards

Katrina Coyne

Holidays!!

Well boys and girls! I can't believe we have come to the end of the school year. What a strange year it has been! I just want to say that I am so proud of each and every one of you. You have been a great 1st and 2nd class. Since 'lockdown' began, you have continued to work hard and do your best. I know it has not been easy. It's different when you are in school and you have to do your work. At home, it's not the same....you probably found it harder to concentrate. However, I have been so impressed with you all with all the work and effort you have put in. You have really outdone yourselves. You should be very proud of yourselves! I also want to thank your parents. Thank you Mammy and Daddy for all the support you have shown, it is very much appreciated. I know that it can't have been easy, perhaps some of you were working on top of having to do work with your children. You can take a well deserved break! I hope that we will be 'back to normal' in September. I also hope to see you all on Wednesday.

Virtual School Tour June 15th - 19th

Hello boys and girls,
Well done to you all on a great weeks work! Imagine this is the end of the school year. It's hard to believe we are at this stage. It has been a very strange and very different school year and one I am sure we will not forget. You have all done a great job keeping up with all the work. I know it can't have been easy. For this week, I am not setting any 'proper work'. However, if you wish to continue with your workbooks and send me work, you are more than welcome to do so. I will look at it and send corrections as normal.

This week, we would have probably been going on a school tour. So, I want you to pick a day this week, make a packed lunch and pretend it is your school tour day. Then you can go on a Virtual Tour of Dublin Zoo. I have put up a link here...….hopefully it works! Give it a go.
If you want, you can draw a picture of your favourite part or write about it.....but only if you want!

Dublin Zoo

If this doesn't work, I apologise in advance. You could type 'Dublin zoo virtual tour ' into google and get into it that way.

There are lots of workbooks on the zoo if you want to try them! Here is the link.

Here are some mindfulness colouring sheets if you are able to print them!

Good morning boys and girls,
Well done to you all on another week of great work. Thank you to all of you who have sent in work. I have answered most of your emails. There are one or two I haven't got round to yet but I will. We are finished our set spelling lists for the year. I am not setting any SESE or SPHE for this week as I think there is a good bit of work here with the Planet Maths and the Skills Books. For anyone who wants to do a little extra, by all means have a look at the Small World books on CJFallon website and choose something yourself or if you want to continue with the Irish from last week please do so but there is no pressure. Let me know if I can help with anything. I know many of you are using your time to do things that you might not normally get to do, like baking, writing letters to friends, learning a new skill, riding a bike. That is great too. Try to keep reading lots and get some fresh air and exercise. Have a good week.

Parents - just a reminder, if the work is causing any undue stress to your child or to you, leave it. The last thing we want is for families to be more stressed than they already are as these are very stressful times. Have a good week. Stay safe.

Communion Class 2020

Good morning First Communion Class of 2020,
Today, 16th May should have been your Big Day. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, your Big Day has been postponed. I know some of you may be feeling a little disappointed today and that is understandable. I am a little sad for you too. However, it is important to remember that it is not cancelled, just postponed. While we don't know when exactly it will happen, it will happen. You will have your Big Day. You will get to celebrate with  your families and friends. You will be able to get all dressed up and have a great day. In years to come you will be able to tell a story about your First Communion that no one else will have told - how you had to postpone your day so that the people you love could be kept safe.
I know some of you are perhaps planning on doing something special today to mark the occasion. Spend time with your family, do something together. It's difficult, you may think, because you can't go anywhere, but it's the little things. Have a meal together, ring a grandparent or a godparent, write a letter to someone about how you are feeling. Talk to Mammy or Daddy about how you are feeling because this should have been a special day for them as well. To see your child on their First Communion Day is a big deal for Mammys and Daddys. So they will understand if you are feeling a little sad as they are probably feeling the same.
So do something nice today. Remember your day will come and like I said it will be all the more reason to celebrate when the time does come. I will be thinking of each one of you today. I know what a mature group of boys and girls you are and that you will look to the future and know that someday you will have your First Communion Day.
Happy what should have been your First Communion Day!
Thinking of you all
Katrina Coyne

Tuesday 31 March 2020

Tuesday 31st March

Hi everyone, I just thought I'd check in with you all again. I hope you are all doing well. I know this is a really difficult time for you all. It's hard to understand but we all need to follow the guidelines set out for us and we will get through this.
I hope you are all being good for your parents. It's all different and strange for them too. I know from my own house that it hard to be cooped up all the time...but it is hard for mammy or daddy too. So we all have to try hard to be patient with each other.
I'm sure you have all finished the work that was sent home with you already, so I've a few things to add to it to keep you busy.

I know that some of you will be wondering about First Communion and all I can say is that I don't know what is happening yet. I'm in the same boat here myself as I have a child for First Communion and a child for Confirmation. We will just have to wait until the government say how long these restrictions will last. As soon as I know what is happening I will let you know. I will post the prayers for Communion up in a few days. For now, be nice to each other, try to get some fresh air and take very good care of yourselves. I miss you all.
Katrina Coyne.
