Science Week Floating Coloured Water

Tracey and James did an experiment using Water and salt. Here is their experiment.

  1. In one glass put some salt and add warm water.
  2. Stir until salt is dissolved
  3. In another glass put some food colouring and add warm water.
  4. Slowly pour the coloured water into the salt water.
Now watch and see how the coloured water sits on top of the salt water.
This is because salt water is heavier than tap water.

Science Week Match in a Glass Experiment

Science Experiments
This week we did some experiments in the classroom. We showed the other classes this morning. We held a science show in the GP room. Here are our experiments.

Match in a glass
  1. Put blu-tac in middle of plate
  2. Add some food colouring to the water and pour around the match.
  3. Light the match.(ask an adult to help with this stage)
  4. Place the glass over the lit match carefully.
  5. Watch the water getting rising up inside the glass.

The match creates hot air inside the glass and it pushes to the sides of the glass. This creates a vacuum effect, which sucks up the water.
